Doughsense is organised into four main sections. Here's what each one does and how to get around.
The Main Navigation
Doughsense is organised into four main sections, accessible from the sidebar:
1. Dashboard
Your financial overview showing:
- Current net worth
- Monthly cash flow
- Milestone progress
- Key metrics at a glance
2. Portfolio
Manage what you own and owe:
- Accounts: Current accounts, savings, escrow, investments, pensions
- Assets: Property, vehicles, valuables
- Liabilities: Loans, credit cards, mortgages
3. Budget
Track money flow:
- Income: Salary, withdrawals, other sources
- Expenses: Bills, savings, debt payments
4. Milestones
Set and track financial milestones:
- Create milestones with specific conditions
- Choose polarity (achieve or avoid) and type (Fixed Date or Criteria-based)
- Track progress automatically
Key Features in Each Section
Dashboard Features
The Dashboard gives you an overview of where you stand right now.
- Date Selector: View your finances at any future date
- Metric Cards: Click for detailed breakdowns
- Quick Actions: Fast access to common tasks
Status Labels and Zone Bars
Each metric card displays coloured status labels and zone bars that provide instant visual feedback about your financial health:
- Green: You're in the healthy range for this metric
- Amber: Caution - approaching limits or needing attention
- Red: Action needed - this metric needs immediate attention
- Grey: No specific status (neutral metrics)
These indicators update automatically as your financial situation changes or when you view different dates, giving you immediate insight without needing to click into each metric.
Portfolio Features
Your Portfolio shows everything you own and owe.
- Add Buttons: Create new accounts, assets, or liabilities from the respective pages
- List View: See all items with current values
- Item Details: Click any item to edit or view history
Budget Features
Budget tracks your cash flow: what comes in and what goes out.
- Income/Expense Toggle: Switch between viewing types
- Add Buttons: Create new income or expenses from the respective pages
- Linked Items: See connections to accounts/debts
Milestones Features
Milestones track your financial goals and when you'll reach them.
- Milestone List: All your milestones in one place
- Progress Indicators: Visual progress bars
- Milestone Details: Click to see conditions and timeline
Settings
Access settings via the user menu in the sidebar:
- Settings Sections: Organised by category (General, Financial, Subscription)
- Quick Edits: Click any field to modify
- Save Automatically: Changes save instantly
Quick Settings
Today's Money Toggle
The "Today's Money" toggle lets you switch between viewing actual future values and today's purchasing power. You can find this in Settings > Financial. Your view updates instantly when toggled.
Common Tasks
Checking Your Progress
- Start at the Dashboard
- Look at metric cards for quick insights
- Use the date selector to see future projections
Adding a New Account
- Go to Portfolio in the sidebar
- Click the Add Account button on the Accounts page
- Choose your account type
- Fill in details and save
Creating a Budget Item
- Go to Budget in the sidebar
- Click Add Income or Add Expense on the respective page
- Set amount, frequency, and target
Setting a Milestone
- Go to Milestones in the sidebar
- Click the Add Milestone button
- Define your milestone conditions
- Link related budget items
Updating Balances
- Go to Portfolio
- Click the account/asset/liability
- Update the balance
- The date automatically updates to today

Use the Timeline
- Available from any main screen
- Click the date at the top
- Select any future date to see projections
- Swipe between months easily
Quick Actions
Each section page has add buttons for creating new items. Click any existing item to view or edit its details.
